Other Security News

As I mentioned last week, a new malware, dubbed VPNFilter, was discovered to be targeting home/SOHO network devices.  The FBI has released an advisory recommending all owners of routers (which is just about everyone with an internet connection at home) to reboot the router to aid in disrupting the malware.  Unfortunately, while rebooting the router will disrupt the malware, it does nothing to remove it.  The only method to remove the malware is to do a factory reset, and there is no easy method to identify if your router has been infected.  BleepingComputer has an excellent write-up that explains how the malware operates.  At a minimum you should reboot your router, and you should make plans to perform a factory reset, especially if your router is on the list of known affected models.

GIT has released an update to address an arbitrary code execution issue.
